Happy Birthday, Alexander!

Today, I am glad to share the news that some of my oldest and dearest friends, The Pogue's, have given birth to their second child, Alexander! I am so ecstatic for them and thought that I would post my favorite images from Trish's maternity session to celebrate!

Congratulations on your new addition!!!

Isn't Trish gorgeous?

Such a sweet, adorable family!

This was such a fun and enjoyable shoot for me. I loved being able to put Trish and Aaron in situations that weren't exactly what they have been used to, but they rocked it and looked great no matter what! It made my job so easy!

Annabelle is going to be such a great big sister to Xander!

Thanks for letting me be a part of such an important family event! I cherish you all and can't wait to meet Xander!

San Francisco: Day 7

On the final day of our vacation, we decided that we would spend the day re-visiting one of the places we liked best earlier in the week: Napa. Except this time, we were going to do it on our own.

First, however, we headed back to Berkeley because I just had to have a sweatshirt. It was a quick stop in, but I had some time to take a few photos from the jeep.

Then, also at my insistence, we decided to check out the Jelly Belly factory in Napa. I was under the impression that it would be a more industrial type of place- you know, big vats of jelly beans and the like...

But I couldn't have been more wrong!

It was like a scary, warped Candyland! They obviously cater to children, but being there was akin to being in a colorful, slightly-floral, neon nightmare! We were greeted with a four hour wait for the tour and a loop of pop Children's songs that had their words changed to incorporate Jelly Belly. I remember the Macarena being one of them! We decided to hurriedly buy some beans and opt out of the rest.

"Thank you! Come again?" I'm sorry. I don't think so. No. Not. Ever. Again. Ever!

After leaving The Scariest Place On Earth, aka Jelly Belly, we were starving in a way that no amount of that fake, plastic-like nacho cheese could satisfy. So we decided to get lunch in Downtown Napa at a place called the Buckhorn Grill. The food was awsome! They served especially gorgeous salads!

After that, we spent a little time walking around downtown Napa before heading out in the Jeep.

We finally made our way to the gorgeous, Coppola-owned winery, Rubicon Estates.

Most of the wineries we had visited up until that point had been small and intimate. Rubicon Estates, however, was ideal in it's grandeur. You first drove down a long, tree-lined driveway, then walked through rows of pillars and then were finally greeted by the sight of a huge mansion with a fountain and reflection pool surrounded by vineyards.

Upon entering the mansion, we found that it was lavishly decorated and filled with stained-glass windows and antiques.

We had a tasting and then wandered around the museum upstairs.

I got these great shots of the lawn and vineyards from the second floor window!

They were about to close, so we spent the remainder of the time enjoying the sunshine on the grounds before heading home.

As we drove back into San Francisco, I thought about how wonderful the week had been and felt wistful knowing that we had to leave.

And even though we had a very early flight in the morning and a lot of packing to do, there was one more quintessential thing that we needed to experience before we could leave California.

That's right! In-N-Out Burger was our last stop. (To tell the truth, it was also our first stop!) It brought our week full circle and brought closure to an experience that the four of us will treasure forever!

I am so glad to have had the opportunity to take this trip with some of my favorite people and to be able to document the whole thing with my camera. I just want to take moment to say thank you BenAnny for all their planning and for putting up with having a camera in their face all week long and to Carlos for encouraging me every step of the way and for being the best husband ever! It was without a doubt one of the greatest trips of my life and I am so happy to have shared it with you!

San Francisco: Day 6

When I look back on all the days of our vacation, Monday stands out as one of the longest and the best. We got an early start to catch the ferry to Alcatraz and I took advantage of the cloudy conditions to take some flower images.

Then we waited in line to get on our ferry. As we were waiting the topic of only having two days left on our trip came up and Carlos, Ben, and I expressed our regret. Anny, however, was having none of it. She interjected with, "Shhhhh! That's dirty talk!" And the subject was promptly dropped!

Alcatraz Island was an introduction to the ruins of a culture that seemed a contradictory mix of innocence and malignity. It was not only a prison for the inmates, but an entire community for the employees and their families.

The ruins were beautiful! I kept thinking about how much I would love to do a portrait session out there. Carlos was kind enough to model a few poses for me!

We were given headsets for the walking tour of the inside of the prison and were impressed by the theatrical stories and background noises.

One of the anecdotes told of the time an inmate squeezed between the bars to retrieve a key just like this one on an escape attempt!

Then in another escape attempt, several inmates conspired to make dummy heads out of soap and plaster to fool the guards at night, so they could crawl out of holes they had been digging in their cells.

The tour was neat, but after a while being inside the prison got to feeling a little depressing.

So we took the ferry back and for the second time in two days, I was reprimanded for taking photos where I plainly should not have been.

I had my heart set on a real tourist experience for lunch: A bowl of clam chowder on the wharf!

Pier 39 was cool. It had a great view of Alcatraz Island and it felt like a carnival!

We even got to see (and smell!) the sea lions!

By the time we were finished at Pier 39, it was almost time to head to Berkeley for our long-awaited dinner at Chez Panisse. We got there a little bit early, so we took a quick tour of the campus.

Then it was time to head to Chez Panisse!

Chez Panisse is a famous restaurant founded by Alice Waters, the founder of the slow food movement. Anny has long been a fan and even has one of her posters in their home, so this was a dream come true. The philosophy behind the slow food movement focuses on whole, organic, locally-grown foods and Chez Panisse delivers on all accounts! I was amazed at how they could make such simple food taste so exceptional!

They even filter and create their own sparkling water to go with the exclusive wines they serve.

We were taken on a tour of the kitchen and Anny discussed herbal ice cream with one of the chefs!

Most of the rest of the evening was spent in a blur of wine and food induced euphoria and I'm not at liberty to show all of those photos, as I would fear for my life under threats of those photographed. But I will tell you that Carlos threw his sweater over his shoulder and his preppy alter-ego "Tad" was born and there was a re-emergence of the AnnyRaptor and the MonkeyWalk. It was a good night!
